Zemax History

In 1991, Dr. Ken Moore founded ZEMAX Development Corporation to commercialize ZEMAX optical design software. The initial versions were aimed at classical lens design, but over the years the capabilities and breadth of systems it could handle expanded immensely. In 2011 the company was acquired by Evergreen Pacific Partners and merged with Radiant Imaging to form Radiant Zemax, LLC. This partnership brought significant investment and growth in both software and services. This investment enabled a major UI update in 2013 and a rebranding of the software as Optic Studio. In 2014 the Zemax portion of Radiant Zemax was sold to Arlington Capital Partners and exists now as Zemax, LLC.

Zemax is the industry standard design and simulation software for optical and illumination designers, engineers and researchers worldwide. With offices in Kirkland, WA USA, Stanstead, UK, and Shanghai, Peoples Republic of China Zemax provides industry leading pre/post-sales support, technical assistance and training. The Zemax Community includes a professional network of users, consultants and partner organizations, businesses and institutions.
